Tips to Prepare for the Educational Interview

As a student applying for nursing school, you may be nervous about the educational interview. You may be wondering how do I prepare for the interview and what kind of questions are they going to ask me? There are no set list of questions we ask students. The goal of the interview process is to determine if the student is ready for nursing school and if our program is the right fit for them. When a student is accepted to our program, we want them to understand not only the structure of the curriculum, but also the amount of work and hours that the student will need to put into their studies to be successful.

Topics of discussion may include questions about how many hours the student has planned for their studies, if the student is working, and how they plan to fit school into their lifestyle. If you are an LPN entering our RN bridge program, you should be prepared to discuss why you have decided to further your education. If you are entering the PN program, think about the reasons why you would like to enter the nursing profession that you may want to share.

I believe that the best advice for preparation is to self-reflect on your aspirations of becoming a nurse, why you would like to further your education, and what nursing means to you. Knowing that nursing school is challenging, also think about ways you can make small changes in your life to make time for your studies. Another suggestion would be to make a list of the questions you have about Jersey College and nursing practice in general. We like to use the educational interview to not only ask you questions, but to answer any questions you have about the program. Our goal is that our students come into our program prepared and that we have answered any questions so that you will be successful in your journey.
