Jersey College’s LPN Program trains you for a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Aspiring LPNs need a high school diploma or GED to apply. Upon completion of the program, you will have earned a diploma and will be eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam. Passing the NCLEX-PN will give you the eligibility you’ll need for a career in the healthcare field.

Objectives
The primary objective of the LPN Program is to prepare students for successful careers in the healthcare industry. A combination of coursework and clinical experiences are used to help nursing students work toward this goal. The program works to instill problem solving, critical thinking, and technical skills in all nursing students. Our holistic approach combines coursework with clinical practice to produce well rounded LPNs skilled in theory, safety, and ethical principals.
Students in the Practical Nursing program shall acquire the following
competencies:
- Apply the holistic nursing process as a systematic problem solving method to provide therapeutic care to culturally diverse individuals, families, and groups across the lifespan.
- Implement established plans of care that incorporate the client's values, customs, culture, religion, and/or beliefs.
- Communicate effectively using interpersonal skills and information technology to support positive client outcomes.
- Incorporate evidence-based biological-psychological-social-cultural and spiritual nursing interventions to promote optimal client health.
- Provide nursing care for individuals and groups using core clinical skills.
- Employ critical thinking to provide safe and effective nursing care.
- Utilize professional values and ethical standards as the foundation for nursing practice.
- Adhere to the legal scope of practice and professional boudnaries of the licensed practical nurse.
- Collaborate with members of interdisciplinary health care team in the provision of care.
- Leverage technology to support the delivery of quality nursing care.
Curriculum
The LPN Program combines a humanistic theory and lecture with clinical practice. The program can be completed through day or evening classes and in as few as four 12-16 week terms. You’ll start with Fundamentals courses to build a solid foundation from which to further your education. From there, you’ll work through more advanced topics such as mental, maternal, and pediatric health. You’ll gain the knowledge and skills necessary to take the NCLEX-RN exam and to become a successful LPN.

Opportunities
Licensed Practical Nurses have the opportunity to work in hospitals, physician’s offices, residential care facilities, outpatient care centers, and a variety of other environments. You’ll work closely with patients and their families, registered nurses and doctors, administering care and furthering your real world education.
As the US population ages, the demand for LPNs is growing quickly and the opportunities for students to move into practical nursing positions are broad. Success in the LPN Program at Jersey College can allow you to fill the gap in the industry and to begin a fulfilling nursing career.
