Jersey College Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

Nursing students, faculty, and administration from Jersey College’s New Jersey and Florida campuses showed their true passion and dedication to support finding a cure for Breast Cancer. Throughout the month of October, the campuses hosted student and faculty-sponsored events to raise awareness and funds to support the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.  Nursing students, staff and faculty took their passion for raising awareness to the kitchen to “cook for a cure”, as they hosted bake sales and food sales at the campuses to raise funds along with other activities to support awareness in the community.

Through the efforts of the students and support of faculty and staff, Jersey College raised over $6,500 for the American Cancer Society in 2016.

The team effort demonstrated by Jersey College students from across the East Coast is truly inspirational as they advocate toward finding a cure for Breast Cancer! Here are some memories shared from each campus from their awareness efforts this year…

Teterboro Campus hosted a variety of fundraising events including: a lunch buffet sale in the student cafeteria for students and staff, “dress down days” for students, gift basket drawings, bake sales, and awareness items to show support for the cause! Students, faculty and staff, along with their families, attended the Walk at New Overpack Park to join with the community in making strides! The Teterboro Campus raised a total amount of $1,688 to contribute.

Ewing Campus displayed a beautifully decorated cake during their bake sale along with other pink treats. The campus joined together for a buffet style lunch sale to donate to a great cause while dining with great company of their classmates and faculty. Around the campus there were many awareness items on display. Students also worked on group presentations on Breast Cancer Awareness with their teams. Some additional campus events included uniform dress down days for students to wear the fashion of their choice and sport their favorite pink items. The Ewing Campus raised a total amount of $977 to contribute.

Tampa Campus greeted visitors with a lobby full of pink awareness items. Students and staff enjoyed hot dogs and popcorn along with sweet treats during their bake sales for evening and day programs.  The campus raised money by hosting challenges such as “Penny Wars” that encouraged everyone to donate change and bills for a friendly “competition for a cure,” and also a “Count for a Cure” guessing game that allowed folks to enter their guess for how many pieces of candy were in a jar to win a prize. The campus, along with their families and even some of their four legged friends, joined the community at the Amalie Arena to make strides down Bayshore Boulevard. The Tampa Campus raised a total amount of $1,027 to contribute.

Jacksonville Campus hosted a Chili Cook-off to have a fun campus-wide competition while raising money for the cause and having a delicious lunch to enjoy. After the “Cook-Off for a Cure”, the campus also hosted a “Painting With a Purpose” event that allowed participants the opportunity to join together for an afternoon of painting on a canvas that they can keep for years to come as memory of their support. In addition, the campus hosted bake sales and had awareness items on display for purchase. The Jacksonville Campus joined the community in making strides at the Hemming Park in Downtown Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Campus raised a total amount of $1,700 to contribute.

Fort Lauderdale Campus joined together to enjoy delicious dishes from around the world for a lunch sale hosted and cooked by their nursing students. Throughout the month, students and staff wore pink attire to display their support with items such as pink wigs, socks, scrubs, sunglasses and more. The enthusiasm shown around the nursing school was very special. The faculty even put together a little cheerleading skit to encourage everyone to join the team in walking. The campus, along with their families, attended the community walk in Broward at the Huizenga Plaza. The Fort Lauderdale Campus raised a total amount of $1,177 to contribute.

Largo Campus is looking forward to joining in the fun for the 2017 fundraising efforts and has already started planning events for the upcoming year.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed to make this year’s dedication to finding a cure such a memorable one! Together, we will keep working towards helping our communities! #NurseLife
