Inspiration to all Single Parents going Back to School

A student shares her story of being a single mom and pursuing her dream of becoming an RN…

Jersey College was recommended to me by a co-worker. We were both LPNs and when I first met her, we were in very similar situations – single mothers who worked full time and had goals of becoming an RN. She achieved her dream and is now a very competent Registered Nurse who supervises me. When I asked her about her school (Jersey College) she told me that “it’s for people like us, who have a family and a busy schedule but want to successfully pass a nursing program.” I am now fulfilling a dream that I’ve had for almost five years. Every chance I get, I’m encouraging other LPNs or anyone who is interested in becoming a nurse to consider Jersey college. The hardest part about going to nursing school is taking that initiative to start. The administrative and financial aid staff provided a clear guide towards getting into the nursing program. I was able to start the nursing program in just a few weeks after my initial contact with them.

As a single mom with two small children to raise, my life is already challenging enough. I have to work two-twelve hour shifts every weekend to support my family. After school during the week, I’m home raising my two year old and eight year old daughters. Surprisingly, I am still able to maintain a GPA of 3.5. Jersey College makes it possible for single working parents like myself to be able to go back to school and become successful. They provide flexible schedules, extensive learning materials, and the instructors have an open-door policy so that we can keep in contact.

At Jersey College, I feel that the faculty care about my success. They go above and beyond to make sure that I am not only able pass an exam or class, but I’m also well prepared to take the NCLEX. There is always someone willing to meet with me and provide me with extra guidance. I want to be a positive role model for my children and prove to them that no matter what the challenges are in life, you can always succeed. All I had to do was put forth the effort and find the right school that offers a team of dedicated and supporting staff. With the training that I am receiving, I feel like Jersey College is preparing me to become a competent, well rounded and knowledgeable, professional Registered Nurse. Jersey College is the key to my success!
