Can an LPN Prescribe Medicine?

No. LPNs cannot prescribe medicine. Instead, they can:

  • Administer medications and treatments already prescribed by a provider
  • Monitor patient responses and report changes
  • Support nursing care plans under RN or physician supervision

Prescribing authority is limited to nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians.
