The Hospital-Based Track of the Professional Nursing program educates and prepares students for entry level registered nursing positions in a variety of health care settings. The program consists of course work in nursing, science, general education, and clinical practice at select health care institutions. The Hospital-Based Track is an on-site Registered Nursing program through an affiliation between ShorePoint Health and Jersey College.
Hospitals throughout the United States have recognized that new graduate nurses lack skills needed to succeed in the hospital environment, which in turn has led to high turnover. To assist with combating this concern, Jersey College partnered with ShorePoint Health – Port Charlotte to establish a hybrid nursing program that seeks to incorporate the benefits of a diploma nursing program with traditional college-based education. This new paradigm is known as the Hospital-Based track of the Professional Nursing program at Jersey College. The goals of the Hospital-Based track are to:

The Practical and Professional nursing programs have resumed modified in-person learning at all campuses in accordance with the College's Restart Plan. While certain courses may continue to utilize online learning platforms, students should expect to attend certain or all coursework in-person, on-campus. The Jersey College campus at ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte offers a Hospital-Based Track of our RN program. Our Port Charlotte staff includes well trained and experienced instructors and administration from around the region that are dedicated to providing a comprehensive nursing education that can prepare you for a real world career.
This hospital-based nursing program is built upon current nursing practice and includes general education and nursing courses in addition to classroom theory, challenging assignments, skill labs, and clinical experiences that prepare students for an entry-level RN position.

The Nursing program at the Port Charlotte Campus is licensed by the Florida Board of Nursing and the Florida Commission for Independent Education. Jersey College is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education.

Upon graduation from the program and successful licensure as a registered nurse, graduates will be qualified to work in hospitals, physicians' offices, home healthcare services, nursing care facilities, outpatient clinics and schools. The most common work environment for Registered Nurses is a hospital, where about 60% of registered nurses are employed.

The earning potential for registered nurses is high. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for an RN in 2019 was $73,300 per year. Salaries on the low and high end range from $52,080 to $111,220. Jersey College does not guarantee employment or any certain salary or wage.
