Nursing Students Lead Educational Group

At Jersey College's York campus, learning goes far beyond the classroom. Our Psychiatric Nursing students recently had the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice by creating and leading an educational group during their clinical experience.

As part of their clinical rotation, students planned and facilitated a therapeutic group designed to engage patients in meaningful discussion and creative expression. The session encouraged participation in a supportive environment while reinforcing important concepts related to mental health, communication, and coping strategies.

One highlight of the group was a hands-on art activity that allowed patients to express themselves creatively. Students are pictured with some of the artwork completed during the session, showcasing the positive impact that creative activities can have in a therapeutic setting.

Experiences like these help prepare future nurses to provide compassionate, patient-centered care. Psychiatric nursing requires strong communication skills, empathy, critical thinking, and the ability to build trusting relationships with patients. By leading educational groups, students gain valuable confidence while learning how therapeutic activities can support healing and overall well-being.
