Professional Nursing | Hospital-Based Track

The Hospital-Based track now offers an Advanced Placement option for currently licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) at certain locations*

The Hospital-Based Track of our Professional Nursing program is located within or on the campus of the following hospitals:

  • Largo Medical Center | Largo, Florida
  • ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte | Port Charlotte, Florida
  • Lutheran Hospital | Fort Wayne, Indiana
  • Bravera Health Brooksville | Brooksville, Florida
  • Physicians Regional Medical Center - Collier | Naples, Florida

This hospital-based nursing option is built upon current nursing practice and includes general education and nursing courses in addition to classroom theory, challenging assignments, skill labs, and clinical experiences that prepare students for an entry-level RN position. Upon successful completion of all program requirements, students earn an Associate of Science degree in Nursing (A.S.N.). The goals of the Hospital-Based option are to:

  • Provide pathways for individuals seeking to enter the nursing profession;
  • Produce competent nurses prepared to enter the acute care setting and other healthcare environments;
  • Complement and supplement graduate nursing residency programs established at hospitals;
  • Assimilate the nursing values and philosophies of our affiliated hospitals into the nursing curriculum;
  • Expose students to patients and the healthcare environment early in the nursing program with an emphasis on patient bedside care;
  • Offer students opportunities to learn about the inner working of a hospital; and
  • Establish a pipeline of nursing graduates for associated hospitals that have been oriented to their mission, goals and nursing philosophies.
