Tips for Applying for Nursing School Scholarships

scholarshiptips.jpg

Did you know there’s a wealth of Scholarship opportunities available for nursing students like you? Here are five (5) reasons you should apply:

1. It’s funding you don’t have to pay back
2. You’re unique in all you do and it’s about time you tell others about it. Why not in a scholarship application personal essay?
3. Asking for letters of recommendation affords opportunities to ‘network’ with your instructors and other professionals
4. You’ve studied long hours to get good grades. Why not leverage these accomplishments?
5. Finally, the number one (1) reason to apply for nursing scholarships …. You Might Just Get One!

Not sure how to go about applying for a nursing scholarship? Here are some tips to guide you:

1. Check out a resource like the 2019 Ultimate Scholarship Book. It contains numerous scholarships designed specifically for nursing students.
2. Speak with your Librarian about immediate scholarship opportunities and ask to see the scholarship binder prepared exclusively for Jersey College students
3. While reviewing scholarships, identify those you’re eligible for. This is critical as you don’t want to waste time and energy applying for funds earmarked for others.
4. Pace yourself! As you know, nursing school is demanding. When identifying scholarships, look for application deadlines over several months. This way, you can utilize ‘time – management’ skills and pace yourself while completing applications. Who needs the added stress?
5. Most applications require personal essays. Winning essays are those that engage readers, tell interesting stories, and are on point with respect to spelling and grammatical issues. We all make mistakes, however proofing your scholarship applications is very important.
6. Finally, if your applications require letters of recommendations, transcripts, etc., ask the appropriate individual(s) for this information well in advance. This way, you’re not scrambling to obtain these documents at the last minute.

Yes, it takes time and energy applying for scholarship opportunities, but don’t get discouraged. Identify those you’re eligible for, give yourself ample time, and say to yourself, “If other nursing students can do this – so can I!”

Good Luck!
