Reasons to Become a Nurse

3 Reasons to Become a Nurse Right Now

If you’ve been thinking about becoming a nurse, now is a great time to begin the next phase of your professional life. In addition to being an extremely rewarding career, there are some unique advantages available in this day and time to nurses that make now a great time to become a nurse.

Nurses Are In Demand

One reason to become a nurse today is the fact that the industry is in great demand for qualified professionals. Nurses are required in a variety of work settings, including doctor’s offices, hospitals and home health services. A nurse’s duties can be quite varied, depending on the type of nurse and where he or she works.

Nurses in hospitals, for example, may face high-intensity, emergency situations like car accidents, muggings and natural disasters. Nurses in the home health industry are more like care takers, so their daily duties may include preparing meals, administering medicine and assisting patients around the home. Regardless of the type of nursing you are interested in, there is demand because of the aging population.

The Affordable Care Act

That’s right, the ACA is now law and that means more people insured which expands the need for more healthcare nationwide.  As 2014 rolls on and more people join the healthcare registries, facilities will have to staff up to meet demand for increased patient loads.  This works in favor of all healthcare professionals, but particularly nurses for whom there was a shortage before the ACA became law.

Job Variety

There will always be a need for nurses, and a variety of nurses at that. When you decide to become a nurse you do so with the knowledge that healthcare is an ever expanding field with niches of medical care from emergency to long term. This variety allows nurses to seek different opportunities throughout their careers and can allow for easier relocating if that need ever arises.

And these are just a few of the great reasons to become a nurse right now!

If you’ve been thinking about a career change to nursing, or if you’re just now entering the job market, nursing can be a wonderful and rewarding career.  Our admissions office takes questions every day from prospective nursing students so if you have any questions about a future in nursing, don’t hesitate to give them a call!
